Five Point Someone like hot cakes, 3 idiots effect

The book has once again started doing the rounds making Chetan Bhagat and his publishers a happy lot. After the bout of controversies hovering over 3 Idiots and Chetan Bhagat’s disappointment that his book, Five Point Someone, received just a tiny mention in the credits, the book has become the rage along with the movie that has so far earned Rs 240 crore.

Says Ravi Menezes, owner, Goobe’s Book Republic, “Sales of Five Point Someone has shot by almost 30 per cent after the movie came out, especially after the controversy.” Blossoms has seen the book disappearing fast from its shelves. One of the employees at the bookshop says, “Sales shot up radically after the controversy surrounding the movie. In fact, we have sold 500 copies in the last three to four days.” The book is currently out of stock at Landmark, Forum Mall because people have flocked in to buy it.

“People have now started placing orders,” notes an employee.

Reliance TimeOut actually had a good strategy to push Five Point Someone even before the row brewed. One of the employees says, “Chetan Bhagat’s books are any way fast sellers. His latest work, 2 States, sold out in 15 days. What we did is, we put up Five Point Someone with 2 States like a package and the sales increased anyway. But of course, even if not radically, the 3 Idiots and Bhagat’s complaints boosted the sales figures.”
